Cats on a Staircase (Bucilla)
Date Started: 2001 (?)
Fabric: Ivory 14 ct. Aida
Completed Design Image
I don't recall exactly when I picked this up. I'm imagining it was sometime around 1999 or 2000. I was attracted to it because it had cats (being the crazy cat lady that I am), but also because it was a holiday stocking that didn't have any religious symbols on it. It came in a kit to make a complete stocking. the stitching is on 14 ct. off-white Aida. While I have the cross stitch fabric, instructions, and thread, I no longer have the stocking felt backing. So when I finish the stitching on this, I'll have to find another kit to be able to repattern the back. I bought this because my mother had made the felt Bucilla stockings for my brother and I as children (they're still at my father's home). Now that I'm starting my own household (in a manner of speaking), I wanted to create my own stockings for holiday decorations. This is a very easy pattern, despite being big. No blended stiches or quarter stitches (so far).
Goals for next round: Fix the miscount in the orange cat's tail to "connect" to rung (can leave as-is, just add stitches to balance out). Add bannister rung behind Himi cat to far right of pattern. Add garland to completed bannister rungs around the orange and Himi cats that are already complete. Backstitch cats. Continue "heel" of stocking area, developing gift boxes and ribbons, if time allows.
