Since I was a child, I've loved ancient Egypt. I still remember opening the copy of National Geographic with all of King Tut's treasures in glorious color. So when I came across the leaflet for this pattern at Michael's during the Christmas '03 season, I had to pick it up-- and the plethora of colors that it uses. It's my first project on linen (I love it already!!) and also my first sampler.

UPDATE 2/25/05: I am restarting this piece for three reasons-- the first is some fabric damage from storage. I'm concerned about it holding up. Other reasons include not being happy with the white background (not authentic looking for an Egyptian piece) and a fear that I mis-counted my fabric dimensions for the vertical stitch counts. Once I get done with backstitching the Castle for this rotation-- and get the fabric edges surge-stitched at my mom's in early March, I'll begin catching up to the photo below, plus adding 10 extra hours to put it back on track. The new edition of the piece is on 28 ct. antique natural linen. It's a beautiful old-looking piece of linen, including some spots that look like fabric stains, but work well for an authentic looking piece. :) I'll update this photo once I get it back to roughly where it was below.
